Recognized as the #1 zoo in the United States by Parents magazine (2009) and Child magazine (2004), Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo features more than 1,000 animals on nearly 60 acres of natural habitats, splash ground water play areas, wild rides, educational shows and interactive opportunities to get closer to wildlife.
The Zoo’s Manatee and Aquatic Center, home to the David A. Straz, Jr. Manatee Hospital, expands the traditional boundaries of a zoo, focusing efforts on critical care for injured, sick and orphaned wild manatees.
There are plenty of activities for kids to enjoy, including water-play areas, zoo rides and shows. Fairly new to the zoo is DinoQuest, featuring 20 dinosaurs that move, blink and roar!
The zoo is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with extended hours on select nights for special events. The Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas days.
